Aix-en-Provence is the Provençal city “par excellence”. Here, everything awakens your senses, from the luminosity of the sky, the golden stone of its ancient façades, and the translucent green of the fountains, the shade from the plane trees or the exceptional colours and flavours of its gastronomy, mouth-watering in the extreme. Aix-en-Provence has been named the city of a thousand fountains, so-called because you will discover one on every corner. It is a city famed for its art, steeped in history and in fact, the ancient streets allow you to retrace the steps of the famous painter, Cézanne. Follow the “passages cloutés” (the golden-coloured nails in the town centre) to follow in the footsteps of Cézanne, from the Cours Mirabeau and its pavement terraces overflowing with people of all ages, to his workshop, which has recently become the most popular place amongst visitors to Aix-en-Provence.
